Photography – Maintain your Memories

Last post, you told me why you travel. Memories and new perspectives were a common thread through your comments.

And one way to keep the vacation going after getting home is photography. (There’s a reason no one makes photo albums of everyday events.)

To make the best of your snapshots, follow these three simple tips:

1.)  Make your pictures pop. Follow the rule of thirds – make the subject of your picture one third or two thirds of your picture — and put them right on the gridlines (see below). Or for a landscape, fill the photo with two thirds of the land you’re admiring.

2.)     Balance people pictures with those landscapes. If you look back on photos, you won’t necessarily remember what that pretty church is, but pictures of people make the best keepsakes.

3.)    Keep them forever – in a photobook. Save 20% on a Shutterfly photo book until April 14, 2010. (Promo code: APRIL20)
Or head to Snapfish and get $10 off purchases of $30 or more. (http://birthday.snapfish.com/)

I hope these three simple tips can keep your pictures pretty and your memories preserved for years to come.

  1. I love how you mixed in photography with your focus on travel. The two are undeniably related, and thus should share the spotlight. I am going to have to look into purchasing a Shutterfly photo book–thanks for the promo code!

I love pictures whether they’re from my own vaca or someone else’s. Good photos help keep those memories vivid and make others really jealous :)

  3. Good advice! I like the way you make it simple– I mean no one wants to have to be reading instructions while taking photographs on an amazing vacation– but at the same time, it sucks to come home and see that half of your pictures were blurry and blah. I did wonder why the shutterfly link wasn’t active though.

  4. This is great advice. My good friend who studied abroad just kept all her pictures on her computer and then lost all of them when it crashed later that year. Advice like this would have totally saved her!
